Request a Clean Air Zone refund
Refunds are only available in the following circumstances.
Your vehicle details were incorrect on the GOV.UK vehicle checker and you have paid to drive in the zone
If your vehicle details are incorrect or ‘not found’ on the GOV.UK vehicle checker you should contact Clean Air Zone Support:
- Online using the GOV.UK contact form
- By telephone by calling 0300 029 8888 (Monday to Friday, 8am to 4.30pm)
Unless advised otherwise, you should still pay the charge within seven days if you have driven or you are planning to drive in the zone.
Once you have updated your details with the DVLA and you have established that your vehicle meets the required emission standards and/or is not chargeable, you can apply to us for a refund for the payments you have already made for this vehicle to drive in the zone.
Please remember to keep proof of payment and receipts.
If you have an approved local exemption from Birmingham City Council, you do not need to contact Clean Air Zone Support and you do not need to pay the charge. The exemption permit is only valid from the date you receive it and refunds will not be issued for any payments made whilst you were waiting for your exemption application to be processed
Please note there are no refunds available for people who pay the charge in advance and change their mind about driving in the zone or pay for an incorrect date or incorrect vehicle.
