Progress in delivering clean air for Birmingham - January 2026
Public engagement and evidence building
Public engagement with the Clean Air Strategy is ongoing. This page summarises Action 2, covering how the council is gathering feedback and building the evidence base with partners to help shape policy and target interventions.
Action 2: Seek ongoing feedback to the strategy
Public engagement with the Clean Air Strategy is ongoing. Activities include dedicated air quality meetings through:
- the People for Public Services Forum
- the Shaping Birmingham’s Future Together marketplace tour
- Clean Air Day events in Family Hubs
These sessions help the council understand what matters to residents and support wider awareness of air quality issues.
The council is increasing its monitoring of air pollution and working with universities and the NHS.
This work:
- strengthens the evidence base on the impact of pollution on health
- helps shape future policy
- supports the use of health impact assessments in major transport and infrastructure projects to reduce potential harm
Data on pollution is being combined with information on deprivation and health conditions to help identify neighbourhoods with overlapping vulnerabilities. This will guide where interventions are most needed.
