Charges are live for Birmingham's Clean Air Zone

Charges now apply for non-compliant vehicles which drive through Birmingham's Clean Air Zone. Payment must be made within the allocated timeframe or a Penalty Charge Notice will be issued. Find out how to pay the charge


If you are the owner of a non-compliant vehicle that will be subject to a daily charge in Birmingham's Clean Air Zone, you may qualify for a temporary exemption permit.

Please note there are no exemptions for the following:

  • Dropping/ collecting children from schools within the Clean Air Zone
  • Volunteers
  • Attending places of worship/ community groups
  • Visiting family/ friends
  • People who work at premises based outside of the zone who travel in for meetings/ appointments/ deliveries (we would recommend speaking to you employer about what support they may be able to offer)
